Tip 2: The ten keyboard shortcuts worth learning

Business Central has dozens of shortcuts. These ten save the most time for someone who lives in sales orders, journals and lists.

  • Alt+N: new record on any list or card.
  • Ctrl+Insert / Ctrl+Delete: insert or delete a line in a document or journal.
  • F8: copy the value from the line above into the current field.
  • Ctrl+Enter: quick entry, jump to the next quick-entry field (see tip 12).
  • Ctrl+F7: ledger entries for the record you are on (customer, vendor, item, bank).
  • Ctrl+Alt+Q: Find entries for a posted document number.
  • Ctrl+Shift+F12: focus mode on a document (lines full width).
  • Alt+F2: show or hide the FactBoxes.
  • Shift+F3: open the filter pane on a list; Alt+F3 filters to the value in the current field.
  • Alt+Shift+W: open the current record in a new browser window.

Press Ctrl+? on any page for the full list. If you learn one, learn F8: it turns a twenty-line journal into a two-minute job.
