Tip 7: Filter syntax: wildcards, ranges, OR and NOT

The filter box accepts a small language. Learning five characters turns it into a query tool.

  • * wildcard: *ltd, ACME*, *bolt*.
  • @ case-insensitive: @*acme*.
  • .. range: 1000..1999, 01/01/26..31/01/26, ..31/03/26 (up to), C*..D*.
  • | or: UK|IE|FR, Open|Released.
  • & and: >100& = =1000, >01/06/26.
  • '' blank: '' finds empty values.
  • Parentheses to group: (UK|IE)&Closed is not valid in one field, but you can combine fields: filter Country to UK|IE and Status to Closed.

Filters apply per field; the filter pane lets you add as many as you like. Type the filter directly into a column's filter box on a list, or use the pane. Alt+F3 on any cell filters the list to that value instantly.
