A sales department on a purchase cost centre, or a project on an account that is never project-related: dimension combinations stop them at entry.
Tell Me: Dimension Combinations. The matrix of dimension pairs: set a pair to Blocked (those two dimensions can never both be on an entry) or Limited, then open the pair and block specific value combinations (Department SALES with Cost Centre WAREHOUSE). The error appears when a user tries, with the dimensions named, not at month-end in a report.
Most businesses need a handful: project only with the departments that run projects; region only with sales accounts. Over-constrain and users work around it; under-constrain and finance reclassifies for a day each month.
