Tip 29: Financial Reports: the P&L and balance sheet you design once

Financial Reports (account schedules) are the report writer for the general ledger. Rows you define, columns you define, run for any period and dimension.

Tell Me: Financial Reports. A report is a row definition (which accounts, totals, formulas, in what order: your P&L layout) and a column definition (actual, budget, variance, this year, last year, by month). Microsoft ships several; copy one and edit. Rows can be account ranges, totalling rows, formulas between rows (gross margin %) and dimension-filtered rows. Run it with a date filter and dimension filters; drill from any figure to the entries; export to Excel with formulas intact; and from version 29 run several together into one PDF.

Build the board pack here, not in Excel from a trial balance. The Power BI post is the next step for the dashboard; the numbers should agree with this.
